Navy detains 11 Indian fishermen poaching in Sri Lankan waters


(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) The Sri Lanka Navy detained 11 Indian fishermen along with three fishing trawlers which were engaging in illegal fishing in Sri Lankan waters in the North last night and this morning.

The arrest was made by naval personnel onboard a Fast Gun Boat attached to the Northern Naval Command during a routine patrol in the sea area northwest of the Analathivu Island, the Navy media unit said.

The Indian fishers and the trawlers were brought to the naval base SLNS Elara. After a medical test, the fishermen will be handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Jaffna for onward investigation.

On Saturday the Navy had arrested another 11 Indian fishermen on two fishing trawlers. (Colombo Gazette)
