(MENAFN) Nine Iranians were captured by the Sri Lanka Navy on Sunday for trying to smuggle 100 kg of heroin.
In a statement, the navy's media unit confirmed the Iranians to have been arrested after the Special Task Force launched a join operation with the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB).
According to a probe, the detained drug smugglers disposed of 50 kg of heroin in the sea after spotting authorities.
It comes two months after Sri Lanka commenced a massive crackdown on drug dealers and smugglers.
