(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) An Iranian vessel transporting heroin has been detained in Sri Lankan waters and has been brought ashore.
The heroin is said to be worth over Rs. 1 Billion.
The vessel was detained in a special operation conducted by the Police and Navy in the southern seas.
The vessel was escorted to the Colombo harbour.
Investigations revealed that the crew of the vessel had dumped part of the heroin at sea.
The vessel is believed to have arrived from Pakistan when it was detected and detained in the southern seas.
Investigators also said that they suspect the vessel is linked to notorious underworld leader Makandure Madush who was detained in Dubai recently. (Colombo Gazette)
