UN's Guterres welcomes CAR gov't establishment

(MENAFN) United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres hailed the formation of a Central African Republic (CAR) government.

In a statement, deputy spokesman Farhan Haq confirmed the UN chief to have welcomed the new government since it was aligned with the Political Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation.

According to the spokesman, "the secretary-general commends the leadership role of the African Union in particular in the successful conclusion of the consultations that were held in Addis Ababa from March 18 to 20, with United Nations support on CAR."

Haq noted that the Chief called on parties involved with the agreement to stick by its values, mostly "the rejection of violence and respect for human rights and human dignity."

He added that Guterres "further urges all signatories of the peace agreement to expedite its implementation."
