Kuwait- Opposition seen to freezing of KD 8 fee with ticket

(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY, March 23: The move to freeze the KD 8 surcharge on each air ticket as was recommended by the Directorate- General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), will benefit most the expatriate community considering their number, which is 3 times the Kuwaitis, and most of them travel annually or more than that to their country, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting economic sources.

The number of Kuwaitis who travel are the ones who can afford and the business community which does not make 20% of the total number of travelers and don't complain about this fee. The sources estimated the number of Kuwaitis who could complain about ticket costs is 200,000, compared with about 2 million expatriates out of total more than 3 million, about 1 million of them with middle income and higher, and two million or more low-income people.

This fee is a burden to them, especially if their families are large. The same sources pointed out that the freezing of the decision was a mistake, and it is the responsibility of MP Riyadh Al- Adasani, who urged the Minister of Commerce and Industry and Minister of Services Khaled Al-Roudhan, who also bears responsibility for cancelling the decision.

The Al-Qabas daily put the estimated revenue from this fee at about 60 million dinars annually, which the DGCA will deal with in principle to develop the services and modernize the airport infrastructure for tourism and travel. The sources stressed that the fee is not a novelty but is charged in a large number of countries around the world
