Cuando Cubango: President arrives in Cuito Cuanavale


(MENAFN- EIN) Cuito Cuanavale, ANGOLA, March 23 - Angolan head of State João Lourenço arrived Saturday morning in Cuito Cuanavale, south-east province of Cuando Cubango, to attend along with several heads of State of sub-region the celebrations that mark the 23rd March, the Southern Africa Liberation Day.,

The Angolan Head of State was received at the local airport by the governor of Cuando Cubango, Pedro Mutindi, and other individuals.

Presidents Mokgweetsi Masisi (Botswana), Hage Geinbob (Namibia), Edgar Lungu (Zambia) and Cyril Ramaphosa (South Africa) are expected to attend the ceremony, which takes place for the first time in 31 years.

The president Hage Geingob of Namibia, the president-in-office of the Southern Africa Development Community ( SADC), and the Angolan head of State João Lourenço, are set to address the event.

Several participants in the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale will get different orders and medals, in recognition of their contribution to the Southern Africa Liberation Day.

The event marks the end of the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale, one of the heaviest battles the country has ever experienced. The date is a regional holiday in the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
