Sri Lanka- Government says Resolution a recognition of steps already taken

(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) The Government says the Resolution on Sri Lanka passed by the UN Human Rights Council today, without a vote, recognises the progressive steps already taken by Sri Lanka since 2015.

Foreign Minister Tilak Marapana told the UN Human Rights Council today that by co-sponsoring the Resolution, Sri Lanka has assured all concerned persons that the Government will continue to move forward within certain parameters to ensure eventual closure.

Marapana invited the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to engage with the relevant local institutions and independent bodies, including the National Human Rights Commission, to verify facts on the ground, which will help OHCHR to provide a more objective and realistic assessment on the progress made in Sri Lanka and its genuine challenges.
