(MENAFN) Indonesia commenced on Thursday a landmark forum meeting of South Pacific nations, with 15 countries in attendance.
Jakarta hosted the Indonesia-South Pacific Forum (ISPF) under the theme "Our future, shared ocean, shared prosperity."
Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi explained that "the ISPF forum is aimed at increasing Indonesia's role and presence in South-Pacific."
Marsudi added that "this meeting is a very historic one because, for the first time, Indonesia organizes a forum with the South-Pacific."
Antara news agency reported that during the forum, participants shed light on maritime economy and connectivity within the region.
