Germany's Merkel backs Brexit delay request

(MENAFN) German Chancellor Angela Merkel voiced support to an appeal British Prime Minister Theresa May for Brexit to be postponed until June 30th.

However, the German chancellor affirmed that such a request requires to be approved an optimistic vote to be seen in the British parliament.

EU leaders will engage in thorough talks on the prime minister's request, the chancellor told lawmakers ahead of joining an EU summit.

Merkel stated "we can agree to this request, in principle, if we have a positive vote next week in the British parliament on the withdrawal documents."
