Evacuation of hundreds on board Swiss cruise ship after collision

(MENAFN) Authorities declared that some 200 people were cleared out of a cruise ship on Wednesday after it crashed with a cargo ship bearing cars on the Waal River near the Dutch city of Nijmegen.

The people carried on the Swiss cruise ship MS Edelweiss were "shaken, but unharmed," according to local safety office Veiligheidsregio Gelderland-Zuid.

Local media revealed that the ship had 160 passengers and 80 staff member on board when it crashed with the cargo ship, which carried two people on board while travelling to Rotterdam.

The crash shoved the cruise ship into a pillar of a railway bridge over the river, leaving great damage to the cruiser and setting a blaze.
