Cameroon: ex- senior official kidnapped

(MENAFN) Local authorities declared that a previous senior government official was abducted early Wednesday in Camroon's restive English-speaking region of Northwest.

Emmanuel Ngafeson Bantar, who worked as secretary of state in the Ministry of Justice in charge of the penitentiary administration, was abducted in Bamenda, a prominent city of Cameroon's Anglophone zone ripped by conflicts between separatists and government forces.

A local official confirmed: "He was at home with his family when gunmen arrived and ordered him to enter into his own vehicle. They then drove him away to an unknown destination."

He added: "The government is putting all measures in place to secure his safe release".
