Qatar- Five women among 94 candidates in final phase for CMC elections

Doha: The number of candidates for the elections of the Central Municipal Council (CMC) at its sixth session, reached 94 candidates, including five women, according to the final tables, which is scheduled to be announced tomorrow in all electoral district headquarters, in preparation for the start of the stage of electoral propaganda.

The Assistant Director General of Information Systems at the Ministry of Interior, Chairman of the Technical Committee for CMC Elections Brigadier Abdulrahman Ali Al Farahid Al Malki, said that after the final tables are announced today , the campaign phase will begin according to the timetable for the electoral process, stressing that each candidate must exercise electoral propaganda according to his electoral program and in accordance with the regulations and conditions set by the Ministry of Interior and comply with the law and after obtaining a special permit.

The Electoral Supervisory Committee is scheduled to organise a seminar on organising the election campaign on Sunday at the Officers' Club of the General Directorate of Civil Defense, in order to complete the stages of the electoral process and to introduce the candidates to the rules of electoral propaganda.

The Public Relations Department Director at the Ministry of Interior, Chairman of the Elections Media Committee Brigadier Abdulla Khalifa Al Muftah, stressed the importance of the electoral campaign stage for all candidates to introduce their electoral programs.

Brigadier Al Muftah pointed out that the rules of electoral campaign stipulate that 'slogans, phrases and images used in electoral campaign should not contradict the religious and social values of the Qatari society.

Brigadier Al Muftah added that in the event of violation of these rules, the Ministry of Interior may revoke the license granted to the candidate in accordance with the decision of the Minister of Interior.

He pointed out that after the election campaign period, the candidate must remove advertisements, posters, electoral leaflets and any means of advertising at his own expense.
