Kuwait grabs four new medals at Special Olympics


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ABU DHABI, March 20 (KUNA) -- Kuwait handball and badminton teams won Wednesday four medals, two silver and two bronze, at the 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi.

In Handball, Kuwait got the silver medal of Group C after losing the final for Oman 15-16.

In Badminton competition, Kuwait mixed team won the sliver medal after defeating Ireland. Men double and women double teams grabbed the bronze medals of the same sport.

Manager of Kuwait's handball team Adel Al-Ashwak expressed pleasure after this achievement and hailed players' high spirits and remarkable performance.

This takes Kuwait's medals tally in the competition up to 22: seven gold, eight silver, and seven bronze.

The 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games is held in Abu Dhabi and Dubai from 14-21 March, the first to be held in a Middle Eastern country. It brings together 7,500 athletes from about 170 countries to compete in 24 sports. The Kuwaiti delegation consists of 76 athletes and managers.

It is an event recognized by the International Olympic Committee and the Special Olympics Organization. (end) my.ibi
