Three Indian cities cheapest to live in globally: Survey

The Economist Intelligence Unit has released its annual 'Worldwide Cost of Living Survey' for 2019.

The top ten places in the list of most expensive cities is shared by European and Asian cities.

Singapore is the only city that has maintained its numero uno position among the top 10 since last year.

India's Delhi, Chennai and Bengaluru are among the cheapest cities globally.

Singapore shared its number 1 position with Paris and Hong Kong.

Switzerland's Zurich fell two places and was placed at number four, while Osaka (Japan) and Geneva (Switzerland) shared the fifth place.

New York, the most expensive city in the US, was placed at seventh position with Seoul (South Korea) and Copenhagen (Denmark).

Los Angeles (US) and Tel Aviv (Israel) were named tenth.

Venezuela's Caracas ended last on the survey's list followed by Syria's Damascus.

Uzbekistan's Tashkent dropped drastically by 19 positions and is the third cheapest city in the world.

According to the survey, India's Bengaluru remained the fifth cheapest city after Almaty (Kazakhstan).

Others in the cheapest ten are Karachi (Pakistan), Lagos (Nigeria), Buenos Aires (Argentina), and India's Chennai and Delhi.

Other cheapest cities like Istanbul (Turkey), Buenos Aires (Argentina) and São Paulo (Brazil) dropped many ranks because of economic turmoil, currency weakness and/or falling local prices.

Meanwhile, few came up, like Tel Aviv, which was ranked 28th five years ago.

London went up eight places to 22nd, because of surge in domestic prices.

This survey considered cost of over 150 items in 133 cities.
