Omani entrepreneur popularises space science


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- An Omani woman entrepreneur, Eng Bahiya al Shuaibi, is making pioneering efforts to popularise space science in the sultanate.

Eng Bahiya's firm, Global Space & Technology Company (GSTC) is the only private company in Oman that specialises in space sector.

Set up in 2017, the company, is conducting a study to identify the best satellite launch locations in Oman and has started a space hub (https://gstc.space/), which is a platform for those interested in space. The company is also planning to come out with a book on space.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, Eng Bahiya said, 'GSTC continues its efforts in imparting knowledge about space and related technologies to those interested in Oman through initiatives and projects. 'We are conducting a study on identifying the best locations in Oman for launch stations. We have set up Space Hub for people who are interested in space and new technologies. It's a platform for people to come together and work on space projects.'

The company has also come out with an encyclopaedia on space called Space Cards by Augmented Reality Technology. 'It helps people explore space and gain information about planets, space and galaxies. We have also opened VR_Hub Lounge at the Muscat Grand Mall. It's a state-of-the-art virtual educational game lounge.'

She said that GSTC provides consultation services to public and private sector firms too. 'We offer consultations, organise knowledge-transfer workshops, and host management services projects in space technologies, telecommunications, satellites and new technologies, professional development programmes such as security and space, satellite communication, satellite navigation/GNSS, edutainment centres related to science and technology, space habitat simulation centres, space technologies, space policy and space law.'

Speaking about the company's future plans, she added, 'We believe that Oman has talents who can work on new technologies and space sector. Big investment is needed in this sector but gains will be massive. We understand the importance of getting communities involved to be part of continuous evolution in the world.'
