Qatar- Agrico eyes European market for export

Doha: Agrico, a private Qatari agricultural development company, is planning to export vegetables to European markets. The company, established in 2011, has witness strong growth in production organic vegetables.

'We have applied for Global G.A.P certification so that we can export to Qatar. We plan to export all kind of vegetables, Nasser Ahmed Al Khalaf, Managing Director, of Agrico told The Peninsula talking on the sidelines AgriteQ exhibition going on at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center. 'There is scope for exporting to European countries because in the winter they can not produce vegetables, he added.

Agrico has set up a huge booth at AgriteQ, which will go until March 22, to showcase its products. The company is already exporting vegetables to Oman and Kuwait. 'We are exporting one and a half tonnes of vegetables weekly to Kuwait by plane, he added.

The company first started exporting its products in 2016 in small quantities.

Its production has increased substantially in the past few years. 'We have increased our production by 100 percent every year. We are producing almost 10 tonnes of different varieties of vegetables per day, he added.

'The demand for organic vegetables is growing dramatically. The demand is much higher than before because of the increase in the level of awareness about organic vegetable among residents. Today if our products are not available in the supermarket then customers demand our products from the supermarket, he added.

He said that the company is aiming to increase yield and increasing efficiency by applying latest technology.

The demand for organic vegetable is set to increase in the future, Nasser Ahmed Al Khalaf added.
