The first large-scale original dance drama of China's Ningxia region, Moon Over the Helan Mountain has confirmed an upcoming American tour of 10 performances at the Bonita Center for the Arts in Los Angeles, the Orleans Showroom Theater in Las Vegas, and the Marin Center Veterans' Memorial Auditorium in San Francisco from March 29 to April 6, 2019.
Moon Over the Helan Mountain tells a story of a foreign traveler, Na Su, venturing on the ancient Silk Road across the Helan Mountains range and the Yellow River with help from the native people. Likewise, the production, from the relatively small city of Yinchuan, is preparing to embark west into new lands through collaborations at the local, national, and global level.
The Yinchuan Art Theatre Company, which is managed by the city government's Yinchuan City Bureau of Culture, Press, Publication, Radio and TV, is a professional performing arts troupe integrating dance, acrobatics, vocal music, instrumental music, and magic across several productions.

Yinchuan, collectively the company and the community, hopes that focusing on Moon Over the Helan Mountain as the flagship for this tour, will promote Chinese regional artistry on the international stage and foster a new exchange of Chinese and American dance.
Yet, the troupe is already far beyond local beginnings.
Since its debut in 2007, Moon Over the Helan Mountain has played in more than 30 cities in China, Europe, Africa, and Asia. It has won more than 30 honors including the special award of the Wenhua Grand Prize, the Lotus Award, The Peony Award, The Golden Chrysanthemum Award, and was rated a "Top Ten Excellent Drama" by the National Stage Art organization. It was later included in the catalogue of foreign cultural exchanges by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
And therein comes a support system few performances have earned.
After garnering the attention of The China Arts and Entertainment Group—the leader of China's cultural-exchange enterprises — and its subsidiary, the China Performing Arts Agency (CPAA), Moon Over the Helan Mountain has served as an integral part of the Silk-Road International League of Theaters project within the overall Belt and Road Initiative more typically known for infrastructure and economic endeavors.
CPAA has proven a vital guide to the troupe. The agency already directly manages 14 theaters over its 2-year operation of the aforementioned Silk Road International League of Theaters, merging an overall 104 members from 38 countries and regions. CPAA's full cultural map covers Asia, Europe, Africa, and Latin America. It has become the world's largest exchange platform for the performing arts. Yet, the United States remained territory relatively unexplored.

When expressing why Moon Over the Helan Mountain was selected for this pioneer work, CPAA expressed that it fully appreciates the artistic quality of the show and that it hopes to continue developing Chinese local art as a national treasure. CPAA sees the move as encouragement for more Chinese original performances to 'step out in order to expand the influence of Chinese performing arts in the international market and spread awareness of traditional Chinese culture.
Facing the new era and the new journey, Yinchuan Art Theatre representatives state that they, like Na Su, will stay true to the original mission and keep moving forward to make new friends in new places.
