Qatar Post to issue flower plant stamps to educate on environment

A Flower Each Spring program has hosted a number of employees of Qatar Post at its headquarters at Ras Matbakh in Al Khor area, where it celebrates ‘Al Jithjath' plant, one of the Qatari environment plants, after choosing it as a slogan for this spring.

The participants learned about the plant's characteristics, its places of growth in Qatar, and its various benefits. The Environment Department also stressed the importance of preserving the environment and benefiting from it without harming it, and working on the development of natural resources without spoiling it.

The Vice-President of the program, Khalid Al Shuaibi, called on the Qatar Post to adopt stamps with the images of Qatari plants. He said that that such action helped send a very strong message to protect the natural environment and wild plants and reflects the great interest that the state gives to the environment and its components.

Al Shuaibi explained that a flower each spring is a 21-year old program, through which it was able to convey it awareness messages, and introduce young people and adults to Qatari plants and their characteristics and how to take care of them. He called on all ministries and private and public companies to join the program trips to take advantage of his efforts in spreading environmental culture.

He also pointed out that the environmental concepts and levels of awareness now differ from the past, however, the program is keen to develop itself and the mechanisms of communication with different segments of society and how to deliver messages.

For his part, Qatar Post's representative Khalid Al Ajlan stressed Qatar Post keenness to participate in all major events of the State by adopting stamps with these events images and working to raise awareness about them, and confirmed that the Qatari plants, especially the ones celebrated by the program each year, are worthy of paying attention to them, indicating that stamp of Al Shafallah flower has been adopted. Jithjath or Yethyas is a medicinal plant. Its scientific name is Pulicaria undulata and is used as an insect repellent and helps to heal wounds.
