(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- As Oman is planning to implement compulsory health insurance for expatriate workers and visitors in the country, the Capital Market Authority (CMA) on Sunday organised a symposium on 'Implementation of Health Insurance and its Challenges'.
Delivering the opening speech at the symposium at Sheraton Oman Hotel, Ahmed Ali al Maamari, vice president - insurance sector at the CMA said, 'The government is planning to launch comprehensive medical insurance for all in the sultanate. As a first step in this direction, expatriates workers, their family members, and visitors to Oman will be covered first.'
The CMA organised the symposium in cooperation with the General Arab Insurance Federation. The opening of the one-day event was held under the patronage of H E Abdullah bin Salim al Salmi, executive president of the CMA.
As per the information, there are over 2mn expatriates living in Oman and they all need some sort of medical and emergency services, Maamari said.
To suggest on the legislation to cover mandatory health insurance, the CMA has formed a committee in cooperation with the members of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Manpower and labour unions, he said.
The symposium focused on several important factors including a review of the health insurance system and implementation mechanisms. The event also discussed a number of experiences from Arab countries in implementing health insurance systems.
