15 newborns die of nosocomial infection in Tunisia

(MENAFN) Fifteen newborn babies so far lost their lives in Tunisia to nosocomial infections, declared spokesman of Tunis Court of First Instance Sofien Sliti.

According to the spokesman, "the Tunisian public prosecutor's office has launched investigation to determine the causes of newborns death at the obstetrics and neonatology departments in the Rabta Hospital in Tunis."

A newborn family defense committee member Kamel Ben Messaoud also revealed "the investigating judge ordered a commission to carry out the necessary investigation to disclose the real causes."

Messaoud stressed that the capital punishment must be delivered to those behind those deaths.

Tunisian Interim Minister of Health Sonia Ben Sheikh explained earlier the cause of deaths to be a nosocomial infection that struck during their stay at hospitals.
