Jordan partakes in OIC parliamentary meetings

Rabat, Mar. 12 (Petra) -- Jordan took part in the meetings of the Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) which kicked off yesterday in the Moroccan capital of Rabat.

The union's president, Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Atif Tarawneh, led Jordan's delegation, which comprises a number of lawmakers and senators.

During the session, Jordanian legislators highlighted the importance of the Hashemite custodianship over Jerusalem's holy sites, urging support of His Majesty King Abdullah's endeavors to end Israeli violations against the Palestinian people.

They also tackled legislation that Jordan had introduced to empower women, including protection from domestic violence.

Secretary General of the Jordanian Lower House Firas Al Odwan also took part in the meeting, which also dealt, among other issues, with a worksheet on improving administrative work in the Omani Shura Council, a top advisory body to the government.
