Aid agencies urge more funding for Syrian people


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, March 12 (KUNA) -- Two European humanitarian aid agencies, Oxfam and the Danish Refugee Council, Tuesday called on governments and other donors to provide more funding to help Syrians recover from eight years of conflict and rebuild their lives.
"Syrians don't need handouts, they need to rebuild their lives," they said and called on the Government of Syria to allow humanitarian organizations access to all those in need of help throughout the country.
The calls come in a new report published by the two aid organizations ahead of the 3rd Brussels conference to discuss the future of to Syria and the region which kicks off today afternoon.
Over 80 percent of the population in Syria is living below the poverty line, more than one in three schools are damaged or destroyed and over two million children are out of school, notes the report. (end) nk.gta
