Rabat's PUIC conf. begins with Kuwaiti participation

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) By Mustafa Al-Marini RABAT, March 11 (KUNA) -- The 14th conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation's Member States (PUIC) began Monday with the participation of Kuwait National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim and his accompanying delegation.

President of the Moroccan House of Representatives Habib El-Malki opened the conference with a call to leave aside all issues of dispute and focus on the overall welfare of PUIC countries.

Having different views is the essence of democracy, which should focus on efforts to bring benefits to people despite the difference in opinions, said the Moroccan leading legislator.

Speaking to KUNA on the sideline of the event, Kuwaiti MP Safaa Al-Hashim stressed the importance of addressing issues connected with women and family, finding means to further elevate their statutes and protect their rights in Arab and Muslim societies.

She affirmed that Kuwait was a leading Arab and Islamic country in terms of issues pro-family and women legislations at a time when a lot of children and women around the world are still being abused or taken advantage of.

The Kuwaiti lawmaker welcomed the selection of Kuwait as the headquarters of the Muslim women parliament conference during the eighth sideline meeting of female Muslim parliamentarians held in Rabat last Tuesday.

The selection came to commend Kuwait's stance to protect women and children regionally and internationally, said MP Al-Hashim.

The Kuwaiti delegation, led by Marzouq Al-Ghanim, is partaking in several sideline meetings during the course of the PUIC conference.

Al-Ghanim is expected to deliver a speech to the conference. (end) mry.gta
