Eyewitness said that the woman was a Moroccan and was apparently drunk. The woman was interrogated by the police and will be referred to the Dubai public prosecution.
In another incident which took place on Saturday afternoon, a vehicle driven by an Arab male driver hit an iron barrier near a roundabout and landed in the middle of the road, without causing any injuries and damage.
Photos of both the accidents were circulated on social media, and it was believed that the second incident happened because the driver was busy on his mobile phone.
Colonel Faisal Issa Al Qasim, director of the Dubai Police's media section, said it can't be established if the driver was busy with his mobile phone but there is evidence that he wasn't paying attention to the road.
He stressed that using mobile phones while at the wheel has become one of the most serious traffic offences that can cause fatal accidents.
In both the incidents, the drivers were distracted and didn't pay heed to the traffic rules. Distraction and inattentive driving caused 438 traffic accidents, which resulted in the death of 59 people and left 495 others injured in 2018.
In some deadly cases recently, it was found that the drivers didn't make a reaction, since they were fully distracted and virtually blind to what was happening in front of their eyes, Al Qasim pointed out.
