Mozambique: 5 die in heavy downpour, floods


(MENAFN) National radio revealed that five people have been killed as four more were uncounted for after heavy downpours and floods hit the provinces of Zambezia and Tete in central Mozambique.

the National Institute for Disaster Management (INGC) declared that at least 1,400 houses were devastated and the preliminary score of evacuated families increased to 2,000.

Horacio Zacarias, INGC delegate in Zambezia confirmed: "Some of the victims were surprised and buried by the walls of their houses that collapsed on them, and others were washed away by floods as they sought refuge."

"The situation is dramatic, we will stay on the ground to provide all possible assistance," according to Horacio Zacarias.
