(MENAFN- Asia Times) A 44-year-old Hong Kong man, who worked as a part-time Uber driver, admitted to a court on Thursday that he had installed a hidden camera to take upskirt videos of his female passengers.
Wong Yiu-long, who is married and has a four-year-old son, pleaded guilty in the Sha Tin Magistrates Court on Thursday to one count of illegal carriage of passengers for reward and one count of acts which outrage public decency, Apple Daily reported.
The court heard that the defendant, who was an officer for a courier company, became a part-time Uber driver to earn extra money.
On September 8 last year, a 28-year-old woman hailed the Uber car at 3 am for a ride from Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon to Sha Tin in the New Territories. She fell asleep once inside the vehicle – a seven-seater Toyota Vellfire.
After 15 minutes, the car was intercepted by police while Wong was driving through the Lion Rock Tunnel. He was asked to do an alcohol test and failed, leading the officer to ask him a series of questions.
An officer then got into the driver's seat to move the vehicle to another spot for further investigation and found an iPhone facing upward in a compartment, live-streaming a video.
The officer woke the woman passenger, who discovered she had been filmed. She was shocked and upset. Police later found two hidden cameras installed under the back of both front seats.
They confiscated three mobile phones and one memory card and found a total of 883 upskirt videos, 13 of which featured the passenger. Wong pleaded for leniency, saying he was ashamed of what he had done. He said he was under stress and the videos provided a bit of excitement.
Acting chief magistrate Victor So Wai-tak said Wong had breached the trust and caused shock and distress to his female passengers. So adjourned the case until March 21 pending a background report on the defendant.
