Rabat to host OIC parliamentarians meeting next Mon.


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RABAT, March 4 (KUNA) -- The Moroccan capital Rabat will host the 14th conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation's Member States (PUIC) during the period March 11-14.

Delegates from legislatures of 54 member states and representatives of nearly two dozens of regional and international organizations will partake in the PUIC conference, the Moroccan parliament, which will host the event, said in a press release on Monday.

Several other meetings will be held on the sidelines of the conference including the 41st meeting of the PUIC Executive Committee; the 8th meeting of the Muslim Women Parliamentarians; and the 9th meeting of the Standing Committee of Palestine.

The PUIC standing committees of political affairs and foreign relations; human rights, women and family affairs; culture, legal affairs, dialogue of civilizations and religions; economic affairs and environment will also convene there during the same period.

The Tehran-based PUIC was launched on 17 June 1999 to spread the Islamic values; enhance the implementation of the Islamic principle of consultation in all OIC members; provide a framework for comprehensive and fruitful cooperation and coordination among parliaments of OIC members in international fora and organizations.

A total of 54 parliaments are the PUIC members and 22 regional and international organizations and parliaments have the observer status. (end) jn.ibi
