(MENAFN - Daily News Egypt) The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) negotiates with Egypt's Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy to launch two new programmes, Chief Representative of JICA Egypt, Yoshifum Omura, told Daily News Egypt, on the sidelines of a seminar organised by JICA last week, entitled 'Promoting energy efficiency and conservation in Egypt. Lessons learnt from experience in Bangladesh'.
"One of the two projects is a loan cooperation, while the other is a technical cooperation scheme in the energy efficiency sector," he mentioned, adding that JICA financed 17 energy projects with over $2bn.
He pointed out that JICA focused on financing the electricity projects to meet the huge demand for the electricity supply before 2000, affirming that "there is a cut in Egypt's subsidies now, and it's the time to step in energy efficiency."
Additionally, JICA is expected to approve a loan extension for Abo El Reesh Japanese Hospital in March during an anticipated Japanese mission's visit to Egypt, he noted.
JICA views the health sector as one of the highly prioritised sectors for the social and economic developments of Egypt, he affirmed over a past interview in August.
'Abo El Reesh Japanese Hospital' was established with JICA's support, an agreement for the construction of new outpatients' facility for Cairo University Pediatric Hospital (CUSPH) was signed in 2016 between the governments of Egypt and Japan which will help improve the quality of the services provided by the hospital.
