(MENAFN) An army soldier was injured by a landmine blast in Orbata mountain in Tunisia's southwestern province of Gafsa, Tunisia Defense Ministry affirmed on Saturday.
Mohamed Zekri, the ministry spokesman, stated that the explosion occurred when the soldier was on an operational mission. The wounded was rushed by helicopter to the military hospital in Tunis to receive medical care.
"Earlier in the morning of Saturday, a shepherd lost his leg in a similar landmine explosion in the nearby Salloum Mountain in the center of the country," a source from the Kasserine Regional Hospital emphasized.
Since 2014, Tunisian government has announced that certain mountainous areas in western Tunisia as military zones.
