(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) It took Oman just about 24 hours to forget the ignominy of being bowled out for 24 as it staged a remarkable comeback to trounce Scotland by 93 runs in the second of the three-match 50-over series at Amerat on Wednesday.
Put to bat first once again, Oman batsmen negotiated the rival attack with much confidence and better application. Jatinder Singh (30), and captain Khawar Ali (44) handled the rival bowlers with ease as Oman reached 135 for three in 33 overs.
Allrounder Mohammed Nadeem's knock 64 off 83 and Khurram Nawaz's quick 64 off 45, which included five sixes and three boundaries, led the hosts to put up a challenging 248 for eight.
Later, Nadeem and spinner Badal Singh picked three wickets each as Scotland was bowled out for 155 in 40 overs.
The win came after the hosts' abject capitulation on Tuesday, which made news across the world as it was fourth-lowest List A total in the history of the game.
Speaking to Muscat Daily after the win, Oman chief coach Duleep Mendis said, 'It was a good comeback by the boys. A very good performance.
'To come back strongly displays the character of the team, which is now preparing for the ICC World Cricket League Division Two in April.'
He added, 'All what I wanted for them was a good game and good batting practice. After they managed 240 plus, it was a great
fightback. It will give them a lot of confidence in the 50-over format. It is important to perform well in this format ahead of Namibia.
'We need to build our confidence from now on and this win will help us a lot.
Allround, it was a good game and all credit to the boys for such a spirited fightback.'
The return of Kaleemullah bolstered Oman's attack and the pacer along with his fellow seamer, Bilal Khan, struck in a span of five overs to leave the visitors tottering at 11 for two.
Badal claimed two of the three wickets that fell in consecutive overs to leave Scotland from 96 for three to 103 for six in 27th over.
A late fightback from Mark Watt only delayed the inevitable but the day's hero, Nadeem, returned to pick the last three wickets for a magnificent allround performance as the Scots were bowled out for 155 in 40 overs.
With the series level 1-1, the decider on Friday is all set to be an exciting affair.
