Egypt- 8 militants killed in Sinai raid: army

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Eight militants were killed in North Sinai on Wednesday morning during a raid by security forces, according to the military spokesperson.

In a statement, the military said the forces targeted seven terrorist dens where the militants were hiding, and where firearms, ammunition, and explosives were found.

The raid came one day after a suicide bombing was carried out at Al-Darb Al-Ahmar district in Cairo, killing three policemen and injuring other five.

On Saturday, Egypt's armed forces said that 15 Egyptian military personnel were killed during a terrorist attack on a security checkpoint in North Sinai, while seven militants were also killed in the attack.

In January, two suspected senior leaders of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group in North Sinai have been killed in an army airstrike.

Egypt has launched the Operation Sinai 2018 in February of that year, which involved infantry, navy, and air forces, as well as police to fight terrorism. The main aim of the Operation Sinai 2018 was to eliminate terrorist and criminal elements in north and central Sinai, parts of the Nile Delta, and the country's Western Desert.
