China police nab 179 suspects of mafia ring


(MENAFN) The provincial public security department declared that South China's Hainan has devastated the biggest mafia ring since the establishment of the province.

deputy leader of the department Liu Haizhi confirmed that up to1,210 policemen and at least 300 vehicles were deployed in a mission on Jan. 6, detaining 179 suspects, seizing cash, vehicles, guns, knives, confiscating properties, land and forest, as well as freezing bank accounts, with the value of more than USD 220 million.

Meanwhile, police are searching for further 54 suspects.

The authorities confirmed that it was the biggest ring operation in the province's history in terms of toll of suspects, police dispatched and social influence.
