Nigerian electoral commission to explain election delay

(MENAFN) Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is ahead of facing tough questions after postponing a general election supposed to be launched last Saturday.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari affirmed that the electoral commission would be required to provide details behind the delay after the elections are completed in March.

The president stressed "definitely the reasons such incompetence manifested have to be explained to the nation. After the elections, we have to know exactly what happened and who is responsible."

"The constitution and the laws protect INEC [Independent National Electoral Commission] but they must not take us for granted," Buhari noted

"We have to move into details after the election to find out who's responsible," he further added.
