Zambia nabs 5,241 over drug- linked charges in 2018


(MENAFN) A government spokesperson declared that Anti-drug authorities in Zambia have nabbed 5,241 people last year over drug-linked charges.

The detentions record a drop of 9 percent from the previous year's 5,757.

Drug Enforcement Commission spokesperson Theresa Katongo confirmed that among the total toll of nabbed people last year, 375 were females and 4,866 were males, including 295
juveniles aged between 11 and 17 years.

She added that up to 1,888 convictions have been registered in the year against 77 acquittals, with a further 2,804 cases pending in the courts of law at various stages.
