Doha, Moroccan expatriate Aziz Mouilah, living in Qatar, challenged himself to run barefoot from Sealine beach to Katara to mark the Qatar National Sport Day, which fell on February 12 this year.

A policeman by profession, Aziz was on road for nearly 10 hours (9hrs 50 minutes) to cover the distance of 72.4 km from Sealine beach to Katara.

Aziz chose to do the challenge because he believes it will make a positive impact on the citizens and residents in Qatar to lead a healthy lifestyle - physically and mentally.

Aziz decided to run barefoot to emphasize and symbolize his concern for the less fortunate people around the world. 'I believe the message should be bought forward that, everyone has to be grateful for what they have and learn to appreciate the special things in their life, he said.

National Sports Day, a national holiday in Qatar, is held annually on the second Tuesday of February, with the main objective of promoting a healthy lifestyle among its population. The first National Sports Day was held in 2012.
