Clashes in northern Gaza injure nine Palestinians, Israeli soldier

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) At least nine Palestinians and one Israeli soldier were injured on Sunday evening during clashes in the northern Gaza Strip, Trend reports referring to Israeli and Palestinian sources.

Ashraf al-Qedra, health ministry spokesman in Gaza, told reporters that one of the nine Palestinians injured by Israeli soldiers' gunfire was in serious condition.

Earlier in the day, security officials in Gaza said Israeli army artillery fired several shells at a military lookout post belonging to Hamas' armed wing al-Qassam Brigades in northern Gaza close to the border with Israel.

No injuries were reported, according to the security officials.

Meanwhile, an Israeli army spokesman also said in a statement that Palestinians carried out violent actions in the northern Gaza Strip close to the border with Israel, adding that they burned tires and threw hand grenades at the army forces stationed on the border.

The Israeli army spokesman said one Israeli soldier was injured and sent to hospital for medical treatment.

The border between the Gaza Strip and Israel has been witnessing tension since the Palestinian anti-Israel "Great March of Return" started on March 30, 2018.

More than 250 Palestinians have since been killed by Israeli fire and 26,000 others injured, according Gaza health officials.
