Israeli army shoots, wounds 12 Palestinians N. Gaza Strip

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) GAZA, Feb 17 (KUNA) -- Israeli occupation forces shot and wounded 12 Palestinians in northern Gaza Strip, Palestinian health ministry announced Sunday.

Emergency teams transported the multiple-wounded victims to Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza city, the ministry's spokesperson Dr. Ashraf Qudra stated.

Medical operations are currently in progress to treat the victims, he noted, adding a 23 year-old Palestinian is in a critical condition due to a gunshot wound to the head.

Meanwhile, Israeli army stated to the press that its forces shelled two Palestinian resistance sites in eastern Jabalia and Beit Hanoun, north of Gaza Strip, causing major property damages.

The action was carried out in retaliation for an earlier attack by Hamas militants against Israeli forces at the security barrier, it said.

The Palestinians used burned tires and fired IEDs in their onslaught, army said, adding an Israeli soldier was wounded as a result, and later taken for hospital for treatment. (end) wab.ma
