Top Kuwait speaker decries bid to belittle stance on Palestine

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Feb 17 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim said on Sunday Kuwait rejects any bid to underestimate its historical and principled position on the Palestinian issue.
Speaking to reporters at parliament, Al-Ghanim reiterated Kuwait's support for the Palestinian people and rejection of the Zionist occupation and its practices as a clear, principled and historical stand.
He added that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah would be invited to attend a parliamentary meeting soon to weigh the political situation and Warsaw conference outcomes.
Al-Ghanim echoed that it was normal and even inevitable for Kuwaiti and Gulf representatives to attend a conference convened by the US and Poland to discuss regional developments.
He cited Kuwait's genuine and unshakable stands towards the Zionist occupation through its UN Security Council (UNSC) membership, recalling that an Israeli delegation had been expelled during an Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) meeting in Saint Petersburg.
The speaker reaffirmed that Kuwait would be the last country to normalize relations with the occupying entity, vowing that his country would continue efforts to confront it.
Earlier on Friday, Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah stressed that Kuwait's position based on rejecting normalization of relations with Israel is clear-cut and firm.
"The State of Kuwait will be the last country to normalize relations with Israel," he said, emphatically dismissing that a group picture taken at Warsaw conference could signal a change in Kuwait's firm stand on the Palestinian issue. (end) ns.fn.mt
