(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Feb 16 (KUNA) -- Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Abul-Gheit underlined on Saturday the importance of studying conditions of education in the Arab world and developing it to tackle the rapid changes in the world.
This came in a speech delivered on his behalf by the Assistant Secretary General of the Arab League's Social Affairs Department, Ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, at the two-day conference entitled "Education in the Arab World in the Third Millennium", which began in Cairo earlier today.
In this context, Abul-Gheit expressed readiness of the Arab League to harness its capabilities and expertise in cooperation with all its Arab and international organizations concerned with the issue of education in the third millennium.
He pointed out that the educational process "is a system consisting of related axioms that affect each other, including the teacher, teaching methods, educational objectives, content and assessment systems." The fourth objective of sustainable development 2030 is to ensure a fair and inclusive education for all and enhance lifelong learning opportunities for all, he said.
Abul-Gheit referred to the decision of the Economic, Development and Social Summit in 2009 in Kuwait, which stipulated that Arab countries implement a plan to develop education in the Arab world during the period 2009-2019.
For his part, Egyptian Minister of Higher Education Khalid Abdul-Ghaffar stressed in his speech the need for integration among Arab countries in the development of education, pointing out that every Arab country with adequate potentials should help other needy Arab nations.
Abdel-Ghafar said the Arab world has great potentials, financial capabilities and expertise of its people, "however, the indicators and quality of education are very low." He stressed in this regard the need to adopt planning "to comply with the industrial revolution and global technology and to meet the needs of the Arab labor market and achieve self-sufficiency, which would keep our students at home rather than seeking to study abroad."
