Qatar's missions mark National Sport Day


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The diplomatic, consular and representative missions of Qatar abroad organised various sporting events to mark Qatar National Sport Day, amid great participation and interest.
In Kuwait, the Qatar embassy organised a special event on the occasion of Sport Day. The event was attended by Qatar's ambassador to Kuwait Bandar bin Mohamed al-Attiyah, military attache of Qatar in Kuwait Major General Ibrahim bin Saad al-Kubaisi, director-general of the Kuwait Public Authority for Youth Abdulrahman Badah al-Mutairi and CEO of Ooredoo Kuwait Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdullah al-Thani, in addition to members of the diplomatic mission and its staff, a number of Qatari nationals and representatives of Qatari institutions in Kuwait.
In Amman, Jordan, the Qatar embassy organised a number of sporting events to celebrate Sport Day, with the participation of the acting charge d'affaires, Abdulaziz bin Mohamed al-Sada, the diplomatic staff, embassy staff and students. The events included football, basketball and ping-pong matches.
In Valletta, Malta, the Qatar embassy organised a programme that included a wide variety of sporting activities to mark Qatar's National Sport Day.
In San Salvador, the Qatar embassy in El Salvador organised a sports event with the participation of the chargé d'affaires, Tariq Othman al-Othman, and a number of members of the diplomatic corps and embassy staff. The programme, which was held on a farm 1,300m above sea level, included various sports activities such as horseback riding, climbing and football.

In Asuncion, Paraguay, the Qatar embassy organised a special event to mark the occasion. The charge d'affaires at the Qatari embassy, Saleh Nasser al-Ghani, delivered a speech in which he stressed the importance of sports activities and how Qatar was the first to choose a day of sport to promote sport with its ethical, humanitarian and health benefits.

In Singapore, the embassy marked the occasion with an event that saw the participation of ambassador Abdullah bin Ahmed al-Sulaiti along with diplomats, heads of Arab and foreign diplomatic missions and embassy staff members. The activities included bowling, among other sports.
In London, the Qatar embassy in the UK organised sports activities that saw the participation of ambassador Yousef bin Ali al-Khater, the diplomatic and embassy staff, as well as a large number of local school students. The programme included athletics-related activities at Lee Valley Athletics Centre in the British capital to promote the IAAF World Championships to be held in Doha in September.
In Paris, the Qatar embassy in France organised sports activities on the occasion, which saw the participation of ambassador Sheikh Ali bin Jassim al-Thani as well as the diplomatic and embassy staff. The envoy stressed the importance of Qatar's role in sport, noting that the country's preparations are continuing to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which will be a global event for peace.

As part of its activities on the occasion of National Sport Day, the Qatar embassy in Mexico concluded the Copa Qatar-Mexico 2019 football tournament. The event was attended by ambassador Mohamed bin Jassim al-Kuwari and a number of prominent sports personalities in Mexico. The event drew the interest of football fans in Mexico.
In Colombo, the Qatar embassy in Sri Lanka organised a sporting event that was attended by ambassador Dr Rashid bin Shafea al-Marri, a number of heads of Arab and foreign diplomatic missions accredited to Sri Lanka, diplomats and embassy staff, and the Qatar Charity office in Colombo. The events included walking, football, volleyball and tennis.
