As part of its commitment to promoting the benefits of an active and healthy lifestyle, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) marked Qatar National Sport Day with a wide range of activities at Katara Cultural Village yesterday.

As the main provider of specialist healthcare services in Qatar, HMC has hosted activities in recognition of National Sport Day since 2012.

Ali Al Khater, HMC's Chief Communications Officer, said the unique holiday can be a great springboard for embracing a healthy lifestyle and inspiring the pubic to make positive, long-lasting, lifestyle changes.

'Qatar National Sport Day is a great opportunity for HMC to promote sport and to educate the public on ways to reduce health conditions associated with a sedentary lifestyle, such as diabetes, cancer, obesity, and coronary heart disease.

Physical activity is central to people's health and well-being, not only can it drastically improve one's quality of life, but it can also prevent physical and mental illness.

We are proud to support the vision for Qatar National Sport Day and to embrace this special holiday, said Al Khater.

Participants at HMC-hosted events at Katara enjoyed a number of activities including free blood sugar, blood pressure, and body mass index health checks.

Nurses and dietitians provided general health tips and advice on healthy eating, with hundreds of residents visiting HMC's health awareness booths. Representatives from the health and safety awareness campaign Kulluna, HMC's Ambulance Service, the National Diabetes Centers, the Tobacco Control Center, and the Blood Donation Unit were also on hand, promoting the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

Al Khater said the aim of HMC-hosted events was to raise awareness about the multiple benefits of sport, to inspire people to adopt a healthy lifestyle, and to highlight the importance of sport in building a healthy community.

He said the ultimate goal was to meet the key objectives of the Human Development Pillar of the Qatar National Vision 2030, which aligns with HMC's vision to provide the safest, most effective, and most compassionate care to patients.
