Doha: The Ministry of Municipality and Environment organised various sport activities to mark National Sport Day yesterday at Katara beach.
Many officials and employees of the Ministry with families visited the pavilion of the Ministry. Children played football, basketball and tennis among many games at miniature playgrounds set up at the pavilion of Ministry at its pavilion.
Minister of Municipality and Environment, H E Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie said that National Sports Day is an initiative to promote the concepts of community sports by expanding the base of the participation of general people in various sports activities in order to promote the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.
'We are working through the ministry and the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) to implement many plans and projects that serve the sport and encourage its practice throughout the year, including public parks and playground in the neighborhoods, joggers track and bicycle routes, said the Minister.
He pointed out that sport is a silent language that everyone understands and carries many important values and messages for the individual and society, including the values of tolerance, and perseverance, as well as healthy competition which helped the individuals to reach new height.
The Minister said that under the patronage of wise leadership, the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who is the first supporter of all efforts aimed at improving the level of sport among the people of the country.
He said that wise leadership is keen to create a culture of sport in the country.
The Minister pointed out that the National Sports Day has a great impact in the embodiment of the love of sport and activity and health practices in the hearts of all citizens and residents of the state.
He pointed out that the sports day is an occasion to increase awareness of the importance of physical activity and the consolidation of the meanings and values of people's gathering and honest competition, tolerance and love.
