Qatar- QU and CCQ mark NSD with horse shows and fitness training

Doha: Qatar University (QU) celebrated the National Sport Day and organized a number of events with the participation of Qatar Charity, Lekhwiya and the Planning and Statistics Authority.

The celebration of QU and its partners included the organization of many sporting events.

QU scheduled many activities and tournaments such as football, volleyball, badminton, cycling, equestrian, and horse shows, combat games and fitness training, as well as sports activities for children. QU activities started at 8am, where participants started with a walk and then the various activities until 11am, as well as the women's activities at the same time in the sport gym.

The aim of the event is to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030 on creating an active, healthy society. The organizers are aiming to strengthen and support this vision to expand the participation of Qatari society members in sports, physical activities and a healthy lifestyle, and to provide more opportunities for all members of the community to exercise in an atmosphere of entertainment, fun, and participation.

Commenting on this important event, QU President Dr. Hassan bin Rashid Al Derham, stressed that National Sport Day is an opportunity to promote the culture of sport and healthy food in the community to become a lifestyle. Al Derham added that Qatar University seeks to spread the culture of sport among its employees.

For his part, Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Khalid Al Khanji, said that Qatar University's interest in celebrating the National Sport Day comes from its belief in the importance of sport and to encourage the academic community and its employees to practice sport, and this annual event is an opportunity for direct interaction with different age groups in society, and also embodies the University's mission to enhance sports performance and to build a healthy generation.

Separately, the Community College of Qatar (CCQ) also celebrated the National Sport Day through a wide range of activities that enhance the participants' physical and mental fitness and provide a fun and competitive atmosphere as it seeks to encourage its students, employees and their families to adopt a healthier and more active lifestyle.

Commenting on the college's participation in the activities of the sport day, CCQ President Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Naemi underlined that the primary mission of the college is to provide quality, student-centered education that enables community members to advance academically and professionally, adding that this is the reason the college attaches great importance to health and physical fitness as they have a vital role to play in enhancing academic achievement and intellectual capacity of students.

He said that CCQ's continuous participation in the sport day celebrations comes as a result of the college's keenness to invest in the health of its students and employees and to raise awareness of the role of physical activities in helping them achieve their personal, academic and professional ambitions.
