Ukraine will not allow Russia to occupy Azov Sea - Poroshenko

(MENAFN - UkrinForm) President Petro Poroshenko has said that Ukraine will remain a maritime state despite Russian aggression.

He stated this at a meeting on the development of the maritime economic sector of Ukraine in Izmail as part of his working visit to Odesa region on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent said.

"Russia's annexation of Crimea, aggression against our state in the east, occupation of part of Donbas, aggression against the Ukrainian Navy in the Kerch Strait and the Black Sea will definitely not change the status of Ukraine as a maritime state," Poroshenko said.

The president promised that Ukraine would not allow Russia to occupy the Azov Sea and the Kerch Strait.

According to him, the Ukrainian presence at sea is a "vital and important" national interest of the state.

As reported, on November 25, 2018, Russian security forces seized three Ukrainian ships and crew members in the Kerch Strait, which headed to Ukrainian ports in the Azov Sea.
