Arab Parliament endorses solidarity document to be presented to Arab summit


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Feb 12 (KUNA) -- The Arab Parliament on Tuesday approved the Arab solidarity document and the challenges facing Arab countries, to be presented to the upcoming Arab summit in Tunis in March.

In a press conference at the conclusion of the plenary session of the house, Arab Parliament Speaker Mishaal Al-Salami said the "Arab solidarity" document included many important points related to the maintenance of security and stability in the region, foremost in terms of supporting the Palestinian cause and respecting the sovereignty of the Arab states.

Al-Salami noted that the document called on the Arab media to show high responsibility and not to provoke strife among Arab societies as well as sectarian conflicts, adding that it included other items on the development and modernization of the League of Arab States and the activation of its specialized councils.

He stressed that the document aims to protect Arab societies in general and to strengthen inter-Arab relations on a legal basis, adding that the Arab parliament has formed a committee to prepare a strategy for cooperation with neighboring countries such as Turkey and Iran.

The Speaker pointed out that the document stipulated the need to develop a unified Arab strategy towards Iran and another towards Turkey, expressing regret for the absence of a "unified" Arab position, agreed on the minimum level of dealing with neighboring Arab countries.

He said that the parliament approved a resolution rejecting fallacies promoted by a number of international organizations which were violating sovereignty of Arab countries, especially in the area of judicial decisions.

On the Palestinian reconciliation, Al-Salami stressed that this file is managed by Egypt, noting the support of the Arab Parliament for the Egyptian role in bringing the views of Palestinian factions closer and completing the reconciliation.

Al-Salami referred to the adoption of two draft resolutions, one on developments in the occupied Syrian Arab Golan and the rejection of attempts by Israel to change the legal status of the Golan and to separate it from Syria.

The Speaker said another resolution was adopted over how water security was affecting the Arab national security. (pickup previous) mfm.aa
