57 rhinos, 26 elephants killed in Namibia in 2018


(MENAFN) Last year, Namibia has witnessed the poaching of 57 rhinos and 26 elephants, said the Minister of Environment and Tourism Pohamba Shifeta.

He also said that 120 suspected poachers were arrest last year.

Shifeta added that his ministry has demanded tougher punishments for those found guilty of poaching.

According to him, rhino poaching occurred at rhino custodian farms and private farms and that poaching was recorded in the national parks.

Accordingly, one rhino was reported poached so far this year, the minister added.
