(MENAFN) Turkish citizens have been struggling with a significant surge in food prices, as people started steering clear of the market and purchasing their goods from a direct selling stand.
Resident Ahmet Yahsi commented: "no more swindler sellers any more. Can you believe that price of green pepper is 16 Turkish liras (3 U.S. dollars) at the market and here it is 6 liras."
With a purpose to tackle increased vegetable and fruit prices, the Turkish government opened direct selling points of the municipalities.
Istanbul and Ankara municipalities, to help citizens amid staggering food prices, started putting cheap vegetable and fruits on sale directly, presenting nearly half prices compared to the market.
