Doha: The World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE), an initiative of Qatar Foundation (QF), participated in a conversation on the future of education at the European Parliament in Brussels, discussing the significance of providing young people with the skills required to become creative, talented leaders who can work collaboratively to make the world a better place.

With support from the African Leadership Academy, the one-day conference brought together global education innovators who are reimagining leadership education and have implemented a number of successful models across the world.

Dr. Asmaa Al Fadala, Director of Research at WISE, presented a panel discussion about enabling an environment for improving the future of education, titled ‘Redesigning Leadership Learning'. Anusha Rahman, Pakistan's former Minister of Information and Communication Technology, and Anna Molero, Chief Government Office, Teach for All, Spain, also participated in the discussion.

Highlighting the need to create a role for educators as designers for learning, Dr. Al Fadala said: 'Policy-makers must cultivate an ecosystem and create a culture that is more open to risk-taking, enabling teachers and learners to explore new ideas and test models. She emphasised that governments need to prioritise and invest in professional development activities that are embedded in school settings, sustained, collaborative, and focused on addressing problems surrounding practice.

Dr. Al Fadala's discussion also focused on the necessity of continuing innovation in education, which she said is 'the best way of building the capacity of teachers, and ultimately improving the educational process for students.
