Qatar- Stage set for 7th leg of Hathab Series

Doha: Action of the hugely-popular Hathab Equestrian Tour resumes after a brief break as the seventh round of the series kicks off today at the Qatar Equestrian Federation's (QEF) Main Arena.

The third edition of the Hathab Series offers a staggering QR1m in overall prize money.

Today's first event will be the Small Tour, which will see riders competing in 120- 130cm category. The event carries a prize money of QR10,000.

The second event of the day is the Medium Tour, (120 - 130cm) for individuals as well as the teams. A total of QR40,000 will be on offer for the winners of the Medium Tour today.

Tomorrow, the final day of the seventh round, Future Riders' Championship will begin the proceedings, followed by the Big Tour class, 130-145cm.

Omar Al Mannai, Commercial Manager of Al Shaqab and Deputy Chairman of the Organising Committee, said: 'The Hathab Series is of very high value for upcoming riders who are learning to become future stars. In the meantime, the series also aims to increase the cultural values among the masses, develop the media interest in the sport, and groom young Qatari riders for their future appearances in local and international tournaments.

He also praised Youssef Al Rumaihi, the Event Director, for playing his part in making the Hathab Tour a huge success and noted that the event is very popular among the masses in its third year since its inception.

Hathab, meaning ‘Center' in Arabic, is an initiative of H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC).

The series is aimed at improving the standard of horse riding among Qatari youth while encouraging the involvement of private stables and individual horse owners to spread awareness of horsemanship as part of Qatar's history and tradition.
