Iraqi President holds talks with Jordanian lawmakers

Baghdad, Feb. 7 (Petra) -- Iraqi President Barham Salih underscored the importance of the distinguished Iraqi-Jordanian ties, embodied by His Majesty King Abdullah's visit to Baghdad.

President Salih, who received Jordan's delegation in Baghdad chaired by Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh, said that maintaining good relations between the two countries require a lot of efforts at all levels.

Barham stressed the importance of maintaining communication between lawmakers from both countries to support causes of mutual concern, pointing out that economic interests and reciprocal economic benefits are strategic projects for the two sides.

The Iraqi President commended Jordan's efforts in defending the region's causes and lauded His Majesty's policy in addressing the Palestinian cause as a pivotal one.

For his part, Tarawneh said that His Majesty's visit to Baghdad following the Iraqi President's visit to Amman are very important for the Jordanian-Iraqi relations.

Tarawneh highlighted the importance of efforts exerted by the two countries in putting Iraq back to its former position as a pioneering country in the region.
